Local Natives

Lately I've been hooked on this song by a group call Local Natives called Airplanes. I've only heard this song and one other by them, but so far I have absolutely loved it. Their style is somewhat hard for me to explain. I find their songs are a bit progressive, almost like Rush, but then again nothing like Rush, nonetheless building up and adding more and more, each bit calculated and precise, although not to the point that the song loses its feeling, its soul. Here is an unofficial music video for the song, which is pretty enjoyable.
Also, here is a bit on them from Aurgasm, including two tracks you can download.

Musical Musings & The Kills

Well, I'd like to start by saying thank you for the invitation to collaborate with this blog. I look forward to whatever extent in which we utilize this space. (If you are reading this after my death, I love music and sharing it! It's the soundtrack of our lives after all. It reminds, evokes, leads, comforts, justifies...all for better or for worse.) I tend to share fresh/fun/interesting stuff, yet I think I shall share my first track that has been around a bit, but I have recently made it's aquaintance. I'll try to post stuff in a similar format to make reading/discovering easier.

Band: The Kills
Album: Midnight Boom (2008 - bonus track version)
Track: Last Day of Magic

There's something very catchy about this track. The guitar, the atari game console seems to even make an appearance, the lyrics..."my little tornado, my little hurricano." It's aggressive, relentless, and quite fun. Sure, it's 2008, but it will be on my Summer-2010 playlist. I'd love to hear your take on this. It's my song of the weekend!

Brown Bird

I recently discovered these guys on Aurgasm, so if you check out that music blog these guys will be nothing new to you. Nonetheless, Brown Bird's folky country style is a breath of fresh air. Their songs are reminiscent of a simpler time, before electric instruments and autotone. Hailing from New England, the band has all but perfected a sound they call 'Dark Americana.' Their newest release, The Devil Dancing is fun and exciting the whole way through. I'm particularly fond of The Bottom of the Barrel. To find out more, check out there website, or follow them on twitter and facebook.
